Shoreline recovery solutions for a wide range of coastal environments
Oil spills that impact the shoreline present unique challenges, requiring specialised equipment to mitigate environmental impact and enable efficient recovery. We provide a comprehensive range of shoreline response equipment, designed to contain, recover, and remove stranded oil from a variety of shoreline environments, including sandy beaches and rocky coasts.
Our specially designed rapid deployment response trailers contain all the equipment and ancillaries needed to establish a shoreline response at a given site.

Shoreline response equipment package breakdown
-
Our shoreline equipment packages come in our specially designed rapid deployment response trailers, which have the ability to be to be centrally located, mobiised at short notice or remotely positioned to higher-risk areas of impact.
The trailers contain the following equipment:
- Inflatable boom
- Shoreline flushing systems
- Oil recovery devices
- Temporary storage tanks
The trailers can be towed by most 4x4 vehicles and come with two hitch options:
- Standard 50mm ball hitch
- NATO hitch
These trailers fit inside a 20-foot ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) shipping container for transportation and storage options.
We also offer our shoreline response equipment package in uniquely racked-out 20-foot ISO containers. These containers contain the same equipment as the trailers but allow for the addition of more equipment due to additional space. These containers ensure the equipment is kept secure and can be located almost anywhere, provided you have the transport and lifting capabilities to move it when required.

Containing oil before it reaches the shore is critical to minimising potential environmental impact. Our skirt and shore-sealing inflatable booms are designed to create an effective barrier against oil washing ashore or to contain stranded oil in intertidal zones.
- Inflatable boom – Designed to prevent oil from impacting the shoreline, as well as ensuring efficient containment and recovery.
- Shore-sealing boom – Offers flexibility in deployment and conforms to shoreline contours for an effective seal.
Standard trailers contain up to 250 metres of shoreline boom, generally divided up into 200 metres of skirt boom and 50 metres of shore sealing boom, but these can be tailored to any requirement.
-
For certain shoreline types, flushing techniques are used to remobilise stranded oil, facilitating its removal. Our packages include shoreline flushing systems designed to loosen and direct oil into recovery areas.
- Low-pressure water flush systems – Effective for dislodging oil from rocky and vegetated shorelines while minimising additional environmental impact.
- Targeted deployment – Directs oil towards collection points or natural recovery zones to support clean-up efficiency.
- Adjustable flow control – Ensures optimal balance to ensure oil mobilisation without affecting local biological sensitivities.
The shoreline flushing equipment includes a petrol-driven water pump that utilises low-pressure water and perforated discharge hoses.
-
Oil stranded on the shore requires specialised recovery devices to remove it effectively. Our packages contain skimmers suited to different shoreline conditions.
- Weir Skimmers – Ideal for recovering large volumes of heavy oil.
- Oleophilic Skimmers – Designed for handling light to medium fuel oils.
Our shoreline skimmers are hydraulically driven by a small diesel power pack, which includes a discharge pump.
All this equipment is lightweight for manual handling purposes but very durable, so it can be manoeuvred without the need for mechanical assistance, which is ideal for unique shoreline environments.
-
Managing recovered oil is critical to preventing secondary pollution. We provide temporary storage solutions with a 10,000-litre capacity to store recovered oil at the quayside. Two people can erect the storage tank in under 10 minutes, and it can be positioned on almost all level surfaces.

Shoreline response equipment packages FAQs
-
Our shoreline response equipment is designed for sandy beaches, rocky coasts, salt marshes, and tidal flats, with specialised tools for each terrain.
-
Shoreline flushing uses low-pressure water flow to loosen stranded oil, directing it toward collection points where it can be recovered. This technique is best used on rocky and vegetated shorelines where direct mechanical recovery is not feasible.
-
Yes, OSRL offers shoreline response training, to help responders safely and effectively deploy booms, recovery devices, and temporary storage solutions.
