Strengthening source control preparedness and response capability across Guyana and the Equatorial Margin.
The Guyana Regional Capping Stack Service provides access to response-ready subsea source control equipment positioned in Georgetown, Guyana. Available through Enhanced Membership, the service supports operators in Guyanese waters and, subject to well nomination and applicable access arrangements, across the wider Equatorial Margin.
The capability is centres on the Global Rapid Response System (GRRS), a lightweight, valve-based 15K capping stack manufactured by Trendsetter Engineering. It is supported by heavy-debris-removal and subsea dispersant application equipment, providing an integrated intervention capability for preparing the well site, gaining access to critical subsea infrastructure and controlling an uncontrolled release.
In June 2026, the equipment was relocated to its permanent location within the Emergency Response Building at the Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase Inc. (VEHSI) facility. The base provides direct access to a dredged harbour basin without tidal restrictions, a shorter route from storage to quayside, and co-location with OSRL personnel, maintenance capability and other emergency response resources.
The Guyana capability complements OSRL’s wider global subsea response arrangements by providing a regionally positioned system with shorter mobilisation pathways for operators across the Guyana–Suriname basin and the wider Equatorial Margin. Where additional equipment, specialist expertise or response support is required, operators can also access our wider global subsea response capability.
Equipment and supporting capabilities
Guyana-based capping stack system
The lightweight capping stack is a 7¹⁄₁₆-inch, 15,000 psi gate-valve-based system designed to connect to a blowout preventer or the top of a wellhead. It incorporates retrievable choke valves and a diverter spool to support controlled flow during installation and shut-in.
The system is designed for subsea use in water depths of up to 3,810 metres (12,500 feet), with a liquid-flow design basis of up to 330,000 barrels per day. It can be installed using drill pipe or wireline and is transportable by air, land or sea.
Wellhead connection capability
The system includes 15K H4 and HC wellhead connectors, together with associated test equipment and connector parking stands. These options provide flexibility when configuring the stack for compatible subsea wellheads, BOPs and other nominated interfaces.
Heavy debris removal equipment
The heavy-debris-removal capability includes a Genesis 2500 subsea shear, two ROV-operated super grinders, and associated deployment equipment. These tools can help remove damaged structures or obstructions that prevent access to the wellhead or interfere with capping stack installation.
Subsea dispersant application equipment
The dispersant package includes H4 and HC coiled-tubing dispersant heads, deployment frames, wands and hoses. It supports subsea dispersant application where this has been selected as part of the incident-specific response strategy and approved by the relevant authorities.

FAQs
-
Available through Enhanced Membership it provides access to a regionally positioned capping stack, heavy-debris-removal equipment and subsea dispersant application equipment for nominated wells in Guyana and the wider Equatorial Margin.
-
The equipment is stored within the Emergency Response Building at the VEHSI facility in Georgetown, Guyana. The capping stack and associated equipment were relocated there in June 2026.
-
The system is a lightweight 7¹⁄₁₆-inch, 15K valve-based capping stack designed for water depths up to 3,810 metres. It has a dry weight of approximately 42 tonnes and a liquid-flow design basis of up to 330,000 barrels per day.
-
The regional capability includes a Genesis 2500 subsea shear, ROV-operated super grinders, deployment equipment, wellhead connectors, test equipment, a subsea dispersant application kit and associated transport equipment.
-
Following activation and configuration, OSRL prepares the selected equipment package and transports it by road from the Emergency Response Building to the designated quayside within the VEHSI shorebase. The incident owner is responsible for the receiving vessel, offshore transportation, installation and associated marine operations.
-
The Guyana capability complements our global subsea response capability by providing a regionally positioned source control solution within the Equatorial Margin. Additional global subsea response services can provide further capping systems, supporting equipment, specialist expertise and operational redundancy where required.
