Australian Maritime Oil Spill Centre Pty Ltd (AMOSC) and Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) – intent for a strategic merger

AMOSC and OSRL, along with the Australian Institute of Petroleum (AMOSC’s shareholder) are pleased to announce that planning has commenced to facilitate a strategic merger between the spill response organisations (subject to final due diligence and approval of the respective Boards).

After a period of consideration, both the AMOSC and OSRL Boards consider that a proposed merger of the entities offers a sustainable solution for industry-based oil spill response capability within Australia.

Integration planning and due diligence has commenced between both organisations. Over the next several months, as part of this, consultation will occur between AMOSC/OSRL and relevant stakeholders. This will focus on staff, members, government regulators and other key stakeholders.

“We look forward to the prospect of bringing our organisations together, and building on the strength of both AMOSC and OSRL. The goal is to ensure that Australian petroleum, maritime and energy companies have access to a fit for purpose, sustainable, effective and efficient industry-led spill response capability. ”

Background

Since its establishment in 1992, AMOSC has served the Australian petroleum and energy industries well. AMOSC has been involved in all major Australian oil spills during the last 30+ years, consistently supporting Australian, State and Territory government efforts in spill response. AMOSC provides to its members a broad range of services, including response planning, assurance testing, and sub-sea response. As an integral part of the response capability of the Australian National Plan for Marine Environmental Emergencies, AMOSC looks forward to continuing to work closely with its Australian-based response partners, under a planned new guise.

OSRL is the world's largest industry-funded cooperative for oil spill preparedness and response. OSRL provides a comprehensive range of services, including preparedness, incident management, consultancy, and training, as well as industry-leading subsea services for well control and environmental mitigation. With over 40 years of experience, OSRL works with members and stakeholders across the energy, shipping, and maritime sectors. OSRL has a long-established involvement in the provision of oil spill preparedness and response services in Australia, and more recently crystallising its position through the establishment of an in-country subsidiary and local office in 2017.
