Test your virtual Incident Management Team

Most incidents begin virtually. Travel time, offshore operations, dispersed personnel and executive availability often mean the first Incident Management Team (IMT) meeting takes place online rather than in a dedicated incident room.

This workbook provides a practical exercise that can be used to test how an IMT establishes command, manages information, develops situational awareness and makes decisions when operating remotely. It combines a self-assessment, facilitated scenario and structured debrief that can be completed in less than two hours.

The exercise is designed to be simple to run while providing realistic pressure through incomplete information, external scrutiny and competing priorities. The objective is not to test technical knowledge, but to examine the processes and behaviours that support effective incident management.

What the workbook covers

  • A self-assessment covering leadership, structure, information management, decision-making and human factors
  • Six principles of effective virtual Incident Management Teams
  • A facilitated incident management exercise
  • Templates for command intent, objectives and decision logging
  • Structured debrief questions to support continuous improvement
